About Me

No matter where you look, there is beauty to be seen and captured.

I grew up in a home where art, design, photography, architecture, education, and a celebration of life were central. My dad was a painter and a sculptor with an at-home studio. I learned from him the importance of balance, space, contrasts, and the intrinsic beauty found in everything. He heavily influenced how I see the world in all its splendor.

As a father of six self-assured and joyful children ranging from two years old to twenty years old, my wife and I work hard to provide a nurturing home where our children and their friends are challenged to be more than they are by making the world around them a better place. High expectations but why shouldn't we expect the best of our kids.

I am a visual learner and thinker. Photography is my media, the camera my brush, the world around me is my palette and inspiration. The world is full of opportunities to create and communicate the beauty and wonder I see in it.

I am a visual storyteller and editor. There is no greater high than retelling an event with others using only photographic stills. When done right, those moments become timeless not only to those who experienced it first hand, but also to those who shared in it through the photos they viewed. I love doing that!

I'm obsessed in creating portraits of my subjects that resonate with emotion and beauty. My photos should share the inner and outer beauty of my subjects. I do this by mostly using available light with minimal processing. This is not because I am a purist, it's how I see that world around me.

Hanging with the boys..

There is nothing like enjoying winter weather in AZ for outdoor sessions. Why stay all cooped up indoors when it’s sunny and warm outdoors?!? The boys agreed completely! These three handsome looking boys are my nephews who don’t nearly get away enough from the mid-west. It was snowing back home when the boys were running around in t’s and shorts enjoying “summer” weather :-) Made me chuckle…really…summer weather…

Guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder…

FaceBook Goodness – Wasson Photography

Finally catching up on all of my New Year’s resolutions…remaking this site and extending it into FaceBook-land…is done! :-) Still pending…finalizing a new gallery app. Nice but it’s taking some tweaking to get it to work.

So go ahead…become a FaceBook Fan! :-)

What is the best thing about photographing weddings? Hands-down, it’s creating timeless images that capture the intensely pure love of newlyweds. These are images that their children’s children will look to and wonder…”I can’t believe grandpa and grandma were so young when they got married?!” ;-) Seriously, I love the opportunity to work with a trusting couple on creating portraits that speak of who they together. Bree and Chris are such a couple! I hope you enjoy them as much as they will.

Double the fun!

What a wonderful opportunity I recently had photographying two young little ladies turning one. They are so similiar and yet so different…both mom and dad’s looks and personalities were part of each, if not a bit stronger in one more than the other. Regardless, what cuties these two little girls are!

Could you ask for anything better?

A new year – a new start!

We are finally transitioning over to our new web presence. Instead of keeping a fairly static website and a blog, we are combining our efforts into one space–our new blog. Over the next couple of weeks we should be hitting our stride once more so as they say “Please forgive the dust as we build” ;-)

Part of our new year resolution is to cut down on quantity and focus on quality. This means we will have more time to create the best possible portraits with each of our clients. We are excited about this prospect and look forward to creating timeless portraits with you.

As a result, there are limited session dates available. Please contact us as soon as possible to secure a Spring session slot as they are going fast.

A New Year is a new start for sure!

Merry Christmas * Feliz Navidad

Busy time at home this holiday! Large family gatherings at the Wasson household on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with close to 100 people visiting over those two days. A bit busy!

However, we did manage to get a few family portraits taken…from the Wasson household to you.

Merry Navidad from the Wasson's
